H. P. Welch, Jr.



Timmonsville, SC – Henry Pelton “H.P.” Welch, Jr. 82 passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Bay Branch Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will have a time of visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.Friday at the Funeral Home.

Mr. Welch was born in Clarendon County, the son of the late Henry Pelton, Sr and Emma Stuart Welch. He was a member of Bay Branch Free Will Baptist Church. H.P. was an Assistant Police Chief and later went to work with Vulcraft where he retired as a Welder.He was a member of Benton Masonic Lodge. In his free time his hobbies were motorcycles, watching the Atlanta Braves and fishing. H.P. loved to talk on his CB to people from all over the United States and finding out what states they were from. His original CB handle was “Honda Man” then, decided “Horse Power” was the best fit for him, which he said stood for HP. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, entertaining them with his love of telling jokes and making people around him laugh and smile. This brought a smile and happiness on his face knowing that he had made another person laugh and smile.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Auda Casteel Welch; two sons, David (Patsy) Welch, Ned (Marie) Welch all of Lexington, SC; a daughter, Tonya (Chad) Kurtz, Columbia; two brothers, Paul Welch and Leo Welch; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by two sisters, Beulah Evans, Ruby Gibbs and brothers, Leondus, Junius, Coit and Monroe.
