Mr. Hill was born in Timmonsville, SC, and was the son of the late Lilla and Gaston Hill. He graduated from Timmonsville High School in 1955 and from Clemson University in 1959 with a degree in Chemistry. He then graduated from Southeastern Baptist Seminary and became an ordained Baptist Minister of Education. He served as Minister of Youth and Education at churches in Tarboro, NC; Cramerton, NC; Hickory, NC; Beaufort, SC; and Mt. Pleasant, SC. He later owned a Radio Shack store in Marion, SC, before retiring to Cartersville, SC.

Mr. Hill dedicated his life to serving God and serving others, through his career as a minister as well as in his personal life. In his ministry, he especially enjoyed organizing Vacation Bible Schools, organizing youth retreats, and visiting hospitals and prisons. In his retirement, he served as a Deacon and active member of Cartersville Baptist Church.
Every place he lived, he served his community in many ways, including roles as a volunteer paramedic and fireman, a crisis ministry volunteer, a disaster relief team member, an organizer of neighborhood crime watch, an election poll worker, and as a fire call volunteer for the American Red Cross.

Mr. Hill’s special passion was restoring antique cars, and he was an active member of the Swamp Fox Old Car Club. In addition to restoring cars, he had the ability to fix and repair almost anything, and he was often found changing a tire for strangers on the highway or patching the roof of a neighbor’s house.

Mr. Hill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Harriet McMillan Hill. He is also survived by his two daughters and their families: Laura Hill Johnson, her husband Kyle, and their children Claudia and Eric; and Susan Hill Mason, her husband Bill, and their children Amanda and Chris. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and by Rex Sappenfield, who was like a son to him.

He was predeceased by his three siblings Patsy Hill Yarborough, Mary Sue Hill Barringer and Dennis Hill.

Memorials may be made to Cartersville Baptist Church, c/o Liston Weatherly, 2515 McDaniel Avenue, Timmonsville, SC 29161.
