Lynchburg, SC – Dona Hargrove Locklair, 66 and 2 days old, went to be with her LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST at 6:45 a.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC.
A celebration of her life service will be Saturday June 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Florence, SC. Interment will follow under a live Oak Tree that Dona and Jerry planted in 1992 in the family plot at Tabernacle-Campground Cemetery in Lynchburg, SC which was established by Jerry’s great-great-grandfather Elder Nathan Hall, a Methodist minister. The family will receive guests at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home on Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Dona Locklair was born in Millen, Georgia, the daughter of the late Rev. Grady Hubert Hargrove and Bernise Pierce Hargrove. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Florence, SC. Dona received her junior and senior credits at Augusta University, Augusta GA. And then transferred to the Ringling College of Art for 3 additional years of study to receive her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. She and her husband Jerry, were and still are the owners of Locklair Art Gallery in Lynchburg, SC. Dona was exceptionally creative and successful not only as an artist and children’s book illustrator, but also in personal children’s ministry over her life time. Dona and Jerry painted together as a husband and wife team, as well as creating their own individual works of art. After graduation they established their home and business near Lynchburg, SC.
Surviving are her husband, Jerry Locklair, Sr. of Lynchburg; two sons, Jerry “Jeremy” L. Locklair,Jr, Millen, GA / Lynchburg, Jason Grady Locklair, Lynchburg, SC; a sister, Cecile Bell, Millen, GA and a number of nieces and nephews and cousins.

I just learned of this yesterday. It was with sadness though thankfully I have the confort of knowing she walked with and is with Jesus. She and I were gret friends in art school. I am glad to say we reconnecected later. Jerry I am sorry for this loss. She fought so hard. My prayers are with ya'll. she was a wonderful person.I am so very thankful I ran into yall in March and was able to talk and give her a hug.
