Belle "Boody" Phillips Smith

Belle Morrison “Boody” Smith Phillips Smith, 101, surrounded by her family; closed her eyes and entered into her heavenly home, Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Byrd Cemetery.  There will be a gathering of family and friends beginning at 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

“Ms. Boody” as she was affectionately known was born in Clio, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Arren Inman and Rena Maynard Smith.  She was a member of Timmonsville United Methodist Church.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.  She had a long and full life in the Timmonsville area.  “Boody” worked in the Belk store in Timmonsville and Pee Dee State Bank as a teller before retiring. “Boody” enjoyed playing canasta and bridge with her friends. She was a member of the Book and Garden Club, Methodist Women’s Circle, Fine Art’s Club and the Samuel Bacot Chapter of the DAR.

She was first married to the late Claude Phillips and then to the late Willie Smith.

Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia (Harold) Bridges, Betsy Langston; son Donald (Ann) Phillips; grandchildren, Laura (Jack) Murphy, Phillip Langston, David (Val) Phillips, Stephen (Katie) Phillips and precious great-grandchildren, Bett Murphy, Finn Murphy, Andy Phillips, Eli Phillips, Teddy Phillips.  She is preceded in death by a son Jeffrey “Jeff” Phillips, half- brothers, Frank Smith, Eb Smith; brother, A.I. Smith, Jr; half- sisters, Jo Shields, Eglah McGirt and sister, Sarah Miller.

The family would like to express a special thank you to her caregivers Sarah Alexander, Betty Coxe, Brenda Dennis, Cyndi Hursey, and to her Mcleod Hospice caregivers especially Brandy, Megan, Andrea, Scott, and Sandy.
